I. Breeder’s Responsibilities

At the time of sale, Breeder believes Puppy is a healthy, sound, quality puppy. Puppy has been wormed several times, has had its first set of shots, and has been carefully checked by a licensed vet. Breeder cannot guarantee the puppy against illness or opportunistic parasites. Stress can ignite illnesses and opportunistic parasites such as hypoglycemia (sugar drop), Coccidia (dormant in most live animals), Giardia, kennel cough, etc. Breeder also does not guarantee the puppy to be “worm-free”, as this is an ongoing process that, once the dog is out of our control, is the responsibility of Buyer. These are easily and economically treated, and all costs associated with treatment are the responsibility of the Buyer. Breeder guarantees Puppy until two years of age against any congenital defect causing early death or making euthanasia necessary. This is defined as a genetic abnormality/disorder that will eventually cause early death of the dog with a life expectancy of less than 5 years or where the disease would progress and ultimately make euthanasia necessary due to extensive medical care.

A. Examination within 30 Days

Buyer agrees to have Puppy examined by a licensed Veterinarian of their choice within 30 days for examination, testing for worms and parasites if necessary, and to schedule further immunizations. Failure to have the Puppy examined by a vet within 30 days of date Puppy was received will result in this health guarantee being void. Seller recommends Puppy be seen by Buyer’s vet within 7 days if possible.

B. Activity Prior to Full Immunization

Buyer agrees to keep the Puppy at home and away from other unvaccinated dogs, public places, and parks and will use care in allowing others from outside their home to pet or touch the Puppy until the Puppy is fully immunized. This is to protect the Puppy from exposure to Parvovirus and other infectious illness. Buyer will not enroll the Puppy in obedience training classes until immunizations are complete, usually in the range of 16 to 20 weeks of age, according to your Veterinarian’s schedule.

C. General Maintenance

Buyer shall assume full responsibility of general health, appearance, and temperament of Puppy and will maintain the animal in good health at all times. Buyer has been informed that this animal will require certain vaccinations (Rabies, DHLPPC, Bordetella) and should be examined by a Veterinarian and be checked annually for heartworms. Heartworm preventative should be given monthly or as advised by your Veterinarian.

D. Activity Level Prior to 18 Months

Buyer understands that Golden Retrievers, Sheepdogs and Bernese Mountain Dogs are prone to Hip and Elbow Dysplasia. Seller has done its due diligence in providing Puppy a good genetic chance of not acquiring Hip or Elbow Dysplasia, however there is also a large environmental component. Buyer understands to avoid injury or stress-trauma occurring to Puppy’s bones and joints, prior to reaching one and a half (18 months) years of age (preferably 2 years), this dog should not go faster on a leash than to break a trot. Children will not be allowed to lie on Puppy. Puppy will not be put on a treadmill, go up and down repeatedly more than half a flight of stairs (over 8 steps), play rough with older dogs or children, stand on his/her back legs for extended periods of time, play wild games with chasing and retrieving (especially on slippery floors or wet grass and with balls thrown further than 15-20 feet), jump up and down from furniture, or chase Frisbees. Puppies need exercise, but excessive wild exercising is not only hard on the joints, it creates a hyper dog. The best exercise for a growing puppy is walking. Once a dog has reached maturity, Jogging, Frisbee and Ball chasing are good exercise.

III. Spay/Neuter Agreement

Buyer agrees to spay or neuter Puppy unless discussed with Breeder in advance. All pure-bred puppies are sold with limited registration.

IV. Remedy

If the Veterinarian detects a problem within the initial examination, or Puppy is determined to have a congenital defect within the first two years of life, a full refund of purchase price or a replacement puppy of equal value, when one is available, will be granted upon the return of Puppy. Buyer must also provide a written statement from the examining Veterinarian detailing the health problem. If the Buyer fails to take the Puppy to be examined by a licensed Veterinarian or if Buyer decides to keep Puppy after discovering a problem, Breeder will not be responsible for any veterinary costs incurred.Breeder has the right to have Puppy examined by a Veterinarian of Breeder’s choice, at Breeder’s expense, for a second opinion.

V. Right of Recovery

If for any reason Buyer is not able to keep this Puppy for his/her full life expectancy, then the Buyer is to return the Puppy to the Breeder. No refund will be provided in this case; however, Breeder will house the Puppy at no charge to Buyer until a new family can be found to adopt him/her. Furthermore, the Breeder holds the right to investigate information given to us about neglect or abuse of Puppy. If abuse or apparent neglect is proven, the animal can be reclaimed by the Breeder with no refund given.
